2008 CAMS Junior Driver Development Program squad announced

Following a flood of nominations from all disciplines of motor sport, the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport Ltd (CAMS) has announced the CAMS Junior Driver Development Program squad members for 2008.

Five of Australia's most promising young motor sport competitors have been selected to attend a specialist training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) later this month.

Young 16 year old Patrick Hall is making the South Australian rallying community sit up and take notice.

At only 16 years and four months, this dedicated teenager is making a difference to his life and hopes to inspire other young people to do the same. He wants to see more young drivers racing in a controlled environment and not on the streets.

Officials Changes Made To Support Club Level Rallying

Consistent with its repeated commitment to club level sport the CAMS Board has approved a recommendation from the Australian Rally Commission (ARCom) to remove the requirement for rally road closure and control officials to hold an officials licence; subject to them having undergone a thorough standardised briefing covering key issues set down by ARCom.

Rally Forums A Step In The Right Direction

ARCom Chairman, Colin Trinder, today expressed how encouraged he has been by the reception from the Australian rally community and constructive feedback received from ARCom's consultative forums held during February.

He identified officials licencing, shortening lines of communication, reducing and simplifying bureaucracy, empowerment at the local and regional levels of the sport and fostering opportunities for diversity in grass roots motor sport as the key themes emerging from the forums.
