Today, the 2009 asp / Cut Price Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally organising committee has announced that it will throw its considerable support behind Cure4CF and their unwavering dedication to achieving a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. With the success of what was achieved through having a dedicated charity supported by the 2008 event, we look forward to working with the Cure4CF team and aiding them in achieving great things.

To give the heads up on why we are supporting Cure4CF, it has to be said that Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common inherited disease causing premature death in Australia, Western Europe and the USA, with one in every 2,500 children born being affected. The Cure4CF research team based at our own Women's and Children's Hospital in Adelaide, South Australia, has developed a potential cure for the dreadful lung disease that causes most of the problems in CF. The research is developing the use of gene transfer, which would replace the defective gene that causes CF and so correct the lung disease.

The gene transfer technique has so far proven successful in animal models, and the Cure4CF team is now scaling up their research into larger animal models to more closely simulate and test what will be needed for human lungs.

The Cure4CF mission is to fast track the development of its internationally-recognised gene therapy approach to find a cure for CF, with a target of beginning clinical human trials by 2012.

We hope to provide value to Cure4CF through the fundraising prospects that will be available to us all in the lead up to and during the event. Also, the central Cure4CF motivation and its achievements will be promoted and showcased at the 2009 asp / Cut Price Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally. Finally, we are able
to provide the community of CF sufferers an awareness of the support networks and groups that are available to them.

With the culture, the focus on excellence, the commitment to all aspects of safety, the dedication to the development of junior drivers and the awareness of community needs, the success that is the 2009 asp / Cut Price Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally will hopefully bring the Cure4CF team the rewards and recognition they so justly deserve.

The 2009 asp / Cut Price Adelaide Hills Tarmac Rally has been scheduled for the 30th & 31st of May, 2009 (subject to CAMS and local council approval).
