2009 Alpine Rally on Track

Alpine 1

Planning for the 2009 Alpine Rally is well advanced and is set to continue the tradition of Australia’s longest running motorsport event.

The weekend of November 13, 14 & 15 will see Lakes Entrance play host to 100 of the best Classic and 2 wheel drive rally cars and crews in Australia and New Zealand competing over some of the best rally roads this country has to offer. There will be 350 km of competitive stages once again including the awesome 35km bitumen stage from Orbost to Buchan.

Spectators will again be treated to a host of exciting vantage points including 1 at Kalimna within 5 minutes of the start/finish location and some new, never before used locations that should keep the excitement flowing all weekend. There is also a strong rumour that a couple of V8 Supercar stars are thinking about making an appearance.

The directing team, overseen by rallying legend Stuart Lister with experienced East Gippsland local Andrew Roberts again filling the all important position of Road Director promise to make the ‘Alpine Magic’ come alive.

With the support of many communities in East Gippsland the Alpine Rally is a great showcase for a region keen to show what a fantastic destination it is. Accommodation is being handled by the East Gippsland Visitor Centre and can be organised by calling 1800 637 060 or visiting www.discovereastgippsland.com.au
